グラマンG-78マラードの製造番号J-56号機は、ＧＤ社の会長がフィッシング用の自家用機として使っていたましたが、同氏の急死により売りに出され 、大阪を拠点に四国などへの水上輸送を企画していた日東航空が東洋綿花の仲介で購入しました。

　日東航空は、本機をJA5057として登録するとともに「第一くろしお」と命名し、下図の路線で使用しました。（大阪は伊丹、名古屋は小牧）

　　　　　　　

　日東航空など３社合併による日本国内航空発足後は、路線縮小によりマラードも余剰機材になり、大阪国際空港に留置され、1967年にパナマへ売却されてJAナンバーが抹消されました。以後、永らく消息不明でしたが、2012年８月にアメリカのテキサス州オースチン市のJhon Mayeｓさんからヒコーキ雲に次のメールがきて、未だ健在であることを知りました。

Good Morning,  First, please excuse me for only being able to writing in English.  I hope you can correspond with me given this shortcoming.  My name is John Mayes and I am the new owner of Grumman Mallard J-56 (N7356) in Austin, Texas in the United States.  I am working to restore J-56 to it's original paint colors and interior.  I see on your web site some wonderful photos of JA5057 when it served in Japan during the time 1959-1966.  I am very grateful that you have put these photos on your web site.  They are a great help in trying to see what J-56 looked like so I can restore her properly.  I wanted to ask a some questions:   1. Is it possible to get high resolution copies of these photos on your web site to me? 　2. Do you have any additional photos available that might help me restore J-56? 　3. 　なお、FAA資料によると、J-56（現N7356）は、2012年７月に耐空証明を更新し、2015年7月まで有効とあります。
